Entreprenuership and High Salaries
Many times you may hear that you need to have a college degree to get a job in any of the high salary careers. However, many of the most famous entrepreneurs in the world dropped out of school to start their businesses. They didn’t listen to those who said they wouldn’t succeed. Instead, they worked at their ideas until they became successful. Included among the successful entrepreneurs are both men and women. Additionally, their successes are not limited to traditional high salary careers like technology, though two of the people on this list are pioneers in the world of computers.
Technology Entrepreneurs With High Salary Careers
When you think of successful computer wizards, the first name that will come to mind is Bill Gates. It doesn’t matter whether you love him or hate him, everyone has to admit the founder of the Microsoft® Corporation has done well for himself. For the 10 years between 1995 and 2005, Bill Gates was ranked as the richest man in the world. That kind of salary isn’t bad for a college dropout. Now, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have their own charitable foundation where they use their own money to help others who aren’t as fortunate, donating to both health and learning causes.
The second computer entrepreneur might not be as well known, but he is almost as successful in his own way. With less than $1,000, Michael Dell dropped out of college to start his own computer company at the age of 19. Though the company was originally called PC’s Limited, he later changed the company’s name to his, Dell, Inc. Though Michael Dell might not have earned as much as Bill Gates, he has still done very well for himself, and he donated $50 million to the University of Texas in Austin. This money was earmarked to help with children’s health and education.
Not only is the founder of Microsoft® on this list of high salary careers, the founder of Apple Computers is also a college dropout. Though the name Steve Jobs is now synonymous with Apple, Inc., he dropped out of college to work for Atari® before founding his computer company with the help of someone else. However, now many investors feel that Apple would not do as well with someone else leading the company. Under his leadership, Apple has slowly transformed from a computer company to selling other products like the iPhone and the iPod.
Food Entrepreneurs In High Salary Careers
Though Rachael Ray never graduated from college or went to culinary school, she has become one of the most seen faces on the Food Network. Starting with her many shows, Rachael Ray has become a high profile cook even to appearing in an episode of Iron Chef America, going up against another Food Network star who also hasn’t gone to culinary school. In addition to her many shows on the Food Network, Rachael Ray had been featured in magazines before having her own magazine debuted in 2006.
Though it has been a few years since Debbi Fields started her cookie business, she is another good example of a college dropout that has earned a lot of money with her new company. Mrs. Fields was 20 years old when she started her cookie business. After building it for many years, she was able to franchise her cookie business. Then, she sold her business entirely and comfortably retired on the money she made.
The founder of the Hershey’s Chocolate Company, Milton Hershey, only completed a 4th grade education. With a nationally marketed chocolate company, Milton Hershey also worked at having a great city for his employees to live in. Now Hershey is synonymous with chocolate, and when you visit Hershey, Pennsylvania, you can visit the amusement park associated with the Hershey Chocolate Company.
Entrepreneurs In Other High Salary Careers
One of the richest people in the world, Richard Branson, has donated to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Richard Branson dropped out of high school to start his first business. Now he owns the 360 companies associated with the Virgin brand including Virgin Mobile and Virgin Airlines. Additionally, in 2007 Richard Branson offered a reward to anyone who could find a way to reduce the greenhouse gasses and help stop global warming. The winner of the prize must prove that his design will help reduce greenhouse gasses to the satisfaction of the judges that Richard Branson and his advisors have chosen.
Focusing primarily on women, Mary Kay Ash has helped millions of women become independent and earn money with their own businesses. Mary Kay Ash developed her own cosmetics line. Unlike Avon, Mary Kay® consultants hold sales parties in peoples’ homes and hold “skincare” classes where they demonstrate the different cleansers and facial products. The Mary Kay® brand has many success stories and is generally known by the pink Cadillac that used to be offered to the area directors. Now, directors are able to choose cars in many different colors, including a gray that matches the new makeup compacts.
Choosing High Salary Careers
Though you may find many lists of high salary careers, it is possible to start a business as a college dropout. As in any other field, starting a business takes a lot of hard work and dedication. There is no guarantee that you will start a business that does as well as the above listed entrepreneurs. If you decide to start a business, you may also decide that you want to have a degree to fall back on in case the business does not succeed the way that you had hoped.
Having this degree does not mean that you have failed at starting your business. It simply means that you are being cautious at what you have decided to do. It is always best to have a secondary plan in case things don’t work out, though dedication and hard work will go a long way to making your business successful. With a list of high salary careers, you can be sure that you will go far.
